"FAST-PACED. PIERCY BREATHES LIFE INTO THE ACTUAL HISTORICAL FIGURES WHO SHAPED THE REVOLUTION."
--San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle
In her most splendid, thought-provoking novel yet, Marge Piercy brings to vibrant life three women who play prominent roles in the tumultuous, bloody French Revolution--as well as their more famous male counterparts.
Defiantly independent Claire Lacombe tests her theory: if men can make things happen, perhaps women can too. Manon Philipon finds she has a talent for politics--albeit as the ghostwriter of her husband's speeches. And Pauline Léon knows one thing for certain: the women must apply the pressure or their male colleagues will let them starve. While illuminating the lives of Robespierre, Danton, and Condorcet, Piercy also opens to us the minds and hearts of women who change their world, live their ideals--and are prepared to die for them.
"MASTERFUL. PIERCY BRINGS THE BLOOD AND GUTS, THE IDEAS AND PASSIONS, OF THE REVOLUTION TO LIFE."
--The Women's Review of Books

About the author:
Brian Dempsey, author of the book "Into The Light of Darkness: A Journey Out of Fear", has been a practicing occultist and spiritualist for over a decade. Progressing quickly from a lifetime of Christian training and theology( Methodist, Southern Baptist, and Assembly of God) to the practice and application of everything from Wicca, New Age healing, Ceremonial Magick, Occult Philosophy, and finally Draconian, Luciferian, and Qlipothic currents, Brian finally brings his dream of teaching and sharing occult theory and practice to life.
Years of research and practice spanning numerous paradigms, Brian has set out to dispel the concepts of evil within the occult and practices such as angelic or demonic evocation. Brian's contention is that each and every person has a destiny to fulfill within set lifetimes, and the right to follow one's own chosen paths, but by facing pre-conceived fears of evil and darkness true enlightenment may be found beyond those veils. The proverbial "forbidden fruits" of knowledge.
With no formal education Brian has set out to accomplish a personal dream by bridging those gaps of misunderstanding between the numerous paradigms of occult thought and mainstream religious views to bring the darkness to light. Armed with a lifetime of stories and personal experience, Brian shares his unconventional views as he recounts his life's journey to arrive at the destination of understanding and self empowerment.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1969, and raised in a conservative "old school" Christian home near Tampa, Florida, Brian would finish 9 years of Christian private schooling before moving on to public schools in the 9th grade. Upon finishing High school he would follow in the blue collar footsteps of his father, marrying quickly and building upon numerous trades such as a volunteer firefighter, mechanic, plumber, commercial truck driver, and finally a professional crane operator for a large regional crane company near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This book was written in the front seat of his truck over the course of a year and a half during free time at work.

Spiritual fear is common place in mainstream religious thought. The fear of sin, hell, or even the Devil himself. But have you ever wondered, questioned, or doubted the very foundations upon which you stand? In this rapidly changing world, people are waking up from their spiritual slumber to find that much more lies beyond the borders of mainstream religious thought.
Veiled in the guise of evil sin, and hoarded by the very opponents of darkness, knowledge and spiritual refinement lie just beyond the horizon of perception. As creatures of creation it is our birthright to question, to seek, and to recreate the world around us each day as we slowly remember who we truly are. The endless cycles of sin and forgiveness are holes in the hull of salvation that may sink a floundering ship. For many, as that ship sinks on one side of the fence, a new creature and flaming Phoenix will rise from the ashes on the other; we only need to face our fears of the unknown.
Many fear retribution and damnation when seeking truth beyond the confines of mainstream faiths. You may find that by facing these fears of change, an entirely hidden world of knowledge and beauty lies just beyond your perception.
Through two failed marriages, poverty, family strife, near death, and thoughts of suicide, this is the author's story of that life changing moment when he questioned everything about himself and the world, leading him away from the cross and fears of doing so.
Casting his fears of sinful damnation to the wind and diving into the proverbial "abyss", Brian discovers redemption in the form of a new self-love and identity, a lost soulmate's true love, and that powerful presence that had guided his path to a point of change since childhood. This revelation would change his life once again, and reveal itself as one of the very things his former faith was supposed to have saved him from. This is the story and journey of overcoming those long held fears and world perceptions to arrive in a place of true knowledge, peace, and appreciation.

This article recounts the life-story of one man who was "diagnosed" as intellectually disabled in the early 1960s. It details the time he spent in a special residential school in the Irish Republic after acquiring this label and outlines the bullying and abuse he experienced. It includes his struggle as an adult to come to terms with his intellectually disabled status and the trauma of his early life. It outlines how he transformed these experiences into the advocacy and research work he is now involved in, which includes supporting organisations to adopt rights-based approaches to the issue of bullying, abuse and maltreatment of people with intellectual disability within service and community settings. Bill's life-story is part of a larger writing project he is undertaking which includes a portfolio of poetry, personal writing and social commentary.

"Of the wonders I yet have heard, / it seems to me most strange that men should fear; / seeing that death, a necessary end, / will come when it will come." William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act II, Scene II. With transcendent understanding, Dr. Roy A. Teel Jr. takes us into the world of the dying—the world of faith and fate, of sadness and humor. His reality-based fiction invites you to join him in traveling the road of both physical death and emotional reckoning, with a few twists thrown in along the way. The Light of Darkness presents a picture of death unlike any seen in modern times by offering you both freedom from mortality. and the reality of it. "Death be not proud, though some have called thee / mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so, / for those who thou think'st thou dost overthrow, / die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me." John Donne, Holy Sonnets, Sonnet 10
The Light of Darkness brings you the other side of death—its mortal reality, its inevitability, and the differing ways that all of us will reach our ultimate end. But the journey doesn't end in the stories. The book gives death a voice in that it allows you to experience "Dialogues in Death" that none of us will know until we too are faced with our own demise. A fresh departure from Dr. Teel's scholarly works, The Light of Darkness illuminates the shadow lands of our finite lives with its triumphs, tragedies, love, humor, anger and loss. "Do not go gentle into that good night, / old age should burn and rave at close of day; / rage, rage against the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night"
When Roy Teel tells a story it is with passion and emotional candor. Eavesdrop on the conversation between young lovers embroiled in the bitter decision to end a pregnancy; follow the boy (now man) left to pick up the pieces of a shattered life to keep a promise made years earlier. His characters never take the high road; each narrator walks you through life's trials and tragedies with a knowing eye. The compelling prose brings the struggles of the characters to life: you feel what the characters feel. Whether it’s fear of approaching death, remorseful cries of anguish for words unspoken, or the reality of being alone when the struggle with mortality has ended. He shows you the devastation and joys of life and leave you with a way to move on. He even interjects an unusual sense of humor in showing a form of karma that saves one character from financial ruin. Each character has a unique voice. and the stories carry you from one to the next with their hints of hope despite drastic situations. In the end the reader is left with the knowledge that they have just had a conversation with death in and through the stories. Enter hesitant and curious and emerge encouraged and enlightened about your own mortality-and the mortality of those you love and even those you don't. The Light of Darkness takes you through the shadow lands of the author's imagination, leaving you with both an express appreciation for life and an understanding of its inevitable end.

Why does knowledge make us see things we don't want to see? Why does it make us suffer more than it makes us happy? Why do we exist in a world with dominating curses more than blessings? Why can't we define the true meaning of happiness, and barely smell its odor? When are we going to finally start asking the right questions?
